Barnyard Babies at the Nellie McKnight Museum

Bring the kids to enjoy the barnyard babies at the Nellie McKnight Museum. Get up close and personal with the piglets, alpacas, chicks, lambs, and calves. Kids can enjoy creating their own “barnyard” crafts and refreshments will be available. The farm exhibit featuring the rich agricultural history of Ellington and the 1812 house museum, featuring the 2024 exhibit “It Happened in Ellington…Believe it or Not”, will be open. It’s sure to be a fun-filled day at Nellie’s!

It’s Monster Truck Day! Carilli Brothers Motorsports will be bringing their impressive Monster Trucks to the Nellie McKnight Museum for all to enjoy. Additional military vehicles, race cars, and even a vintage fire truck will also be on site. Winterfest At Nellies

Celebrate the holiday season with the Ellington Historical Society!

Our annual Winterfest at the Nellie McKnight Museum returns this coming Saturday, December 2nd. Enjoy a day of shopping and merriment. The event begins at 10 am, with our Holiday Marketplace opening its doors for those looking for gift ideas and uniquely Ellington-themed items.

At 11:30 am, Chick-fil-A will be arriving! Followed by MH Bakes cupcakes at 3 pm. We’ll then be serving refreshments for adults and kids to enjoy around bonfires on our grounds and offering tours of the museum featuring the much-talked-about Crystal Lake exhibit.

Looking forward to seeing you this weekend!

Ellington Farm Day

Start your day off with a visit to the Ellington Farmers’ Market in Arbor Park  (9AM to 12PM), then stroll down to the Nellie McKnight Museum to learn the history of Ellington farming at the Ellington Historical Society’s Farm Exhibit. Next stop at the Hall Memorial Library where you can watch live chicks hatch and kids can create a chicken-themed craft. You can take a cruise around town and visit one or more of the participating farms like Oakridge Dairy and the Modern Milkman and see how a modern-day dairy farm operates. Stop at DeCarli’s Equestrian Center or Hillside Stable for a pony ride and learn about riding lessons and boarding opportunities. Visit SJ Riding Camp to visit their summer camp facilities. Be sure to visit the quaint farm store at Johnny Appleseed’s Farm for freshly picked apples, the Back to Roots Vegetable stand for a variety of veggies, and pick up some hardy chrysanthemums at Back to Roots Mums.  Stop at Dzen Garden Market for farm-fresh products and take advantage of their two-for-one small ice cream cone offer! You will also find Ellington-raised beef at Charter Acres Farm and Star Hardware. It’s going to be a great day to celebrate Ellington Farming!

Vintage Flea Market

We have been collecting great items for our annual Vintage Flea Market to be held May 13th from 9 am-2 pm at the Nellie McKnight Museum. Along with items donated to the Ellington Historical Society, independent participants will be on-site as well. Vendors can apply here. Crystal Lake Showcase

The exhibit explores the diverse history of Ellington’s long ago resort destination. From the early settlers through the 70s visitors will be amazed at the backstory of “Little Coney Island” Visitors will be amazed at the collection of photographs, original artifacts, and timelines, and even purchase a hotdog at the recreation of Jimmy’s famous hotdog stand.

The Diary of R.I. Young

Christopher Biggs of the Historical Society presents a profile of R. I. Young, a student at Ellington’s Edward Hall’s School in 1862. His research is based on Young’s diary, one of the Society’s holdings. What was R.I.’s day like? His schoolwork? His leisure time?
